Jason Robert Brown was born in 1970 in New York. He worked early on as an arranger, conductor and pianist for different Broadway productions "Songs For A New World" is his breakthrough in 1995. For "Parade" he receives the popular Tony Award in 1999.
"The Last Five Years" in 2001 celebrates its premiere in Chicago and Off-Broadway premiere in 2002. The two-man play starts from different perspectives: while the perspective of the woman begins at the end of the relationship and ends with the first date, Jason tells the story of the male protagonist from the first date to the failure of the relationship.
"13" (Broadway debut in September 2008) is completely sung and played by children. The play deals with the problems of the 13-year-old Evan Goldman: Just before the most important day of his life, the Bar Mitzvah – in which he becomes officially a man - his parents seperate and he must move with his mother from New York to Indiana . For a 13-year-old boy a very boring area, away from friends and family. His mission: invite only the coolest kids to his Bar Mitzvah.
Jason Robert Brown belongs next to Michael John LaChiusa and Adam Guettel to the new generation of music-theatre composers, following new musical and artistic ways. Jason Robert Brown teaches master classes around the world and works as a lecturer at the "University of Southern California".
